Results of the 34th GEF Council Meeting and Consultations

The 34th GEF Council Meeting and GEF NGO Network Consultations took place in Washington from the 10-14 November. Due to the importance of the issue the GEF decided to embrace new efforts to dramatically scale up technology transfer to developing countries, looking to mitigate and adapt to climate change challenges.


Countdown to Poznan: GEF Participation at the UNFCCC

The 14th Conference of the Parties (COP 14) to the United Nations framework Convention on Climate Change, along with the 4th Session of the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol, will take place December 1-12, 2008, in Poznan, Poland.


Technology Transfer for GEF Climate Change Projects

As part of the GEF’s mission to act locally for worldwide impact, the GEF has become one of the largest public sector EST transfer mechanisms in the world. Much of the GEF’s work has been devoted to supporting the deployment and diffusion of ESTs that address climate change mitigation and adaptation.

 

Production and Use of the Nine Persistant Organic Pollutants Proposed to Be Listed under the Stockholm Convention

The Persistant Organic Pollutants Review Committee (POPRC) under the Stockholm Convention has recommended including nine new substances in the list of POPs. Inclusion of these pollutants is an important step in protecting the public health.
